This policy applies to monetization on X and X’s paid advertising products.

What’s the policy?

X prohibits the promotion of tobacco content globally. However, in jurisdictions where local laws and regulations allow, specific content may be permitted with restrictions.

What products or services are subject to this policy?

Prohibited Content

Products and services involving combustible materials are prohibited from advertising. Examples include cigatettes, smokeless tobacco products (chewing tobacco, snuff) and cigars.

Permitted with Restrictions

Tobacco-related advertisements that are permitted with restrictions are subject to the following:

  • Advertisers are responsible for complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and advertising guidelines.
  • Advertisers must not target customers under the age of 21.
  • The Tobacco Content pre-authorization form must be submitted and approved before promoting any tobacco-related content.

By offering approved tobacco-related advertisements you agree to the Tobacco Content Terms.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Approved advertisers are permitted to target the following countries: 

  • Africa: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Malawi, Mayotte, Mozambique, Namibia, Reunion, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Smoking Alternative ads refer to advertisements that promote products or services designed as alternatives to traditional tobacco smoking. Examples: oral and topical smoking solutions and vape products. 

Approved advertisers must have an established market presence and are permitted to target the following countries: Japan, and the United States.

Tobacco Accessories and Paraphernalia

Approved advertisers are permitted to target the following countries: Japan and the United States.
