Unacceptable content

What is the policy?

X prohibits ads that contain unacceptable content globally. While all content on X is subject to the X Rules, we place additional restrictions on advertising content.

Categories of content we consider unacceptable for advertising include:

Derogatory Content

Ads must not promote content that is disrespectful, discriminatory, or harmful towards an individual, group, or organization, including hate speech or advocacy against protected groups, individuals, or organizations based on characteristics such as: race, ethnicity, color, national origin, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, medical or genetic condition, status as a veteran, status as a refugee, status as an immigrant. Examples: 

  • Inflammatory or provocative content that incites anger or violence
  • Content that seeks to exploit to gain unfair advantage
  • Offensive, abusive, demeaning, intimidating or bullying content against an individual or a group
  • Promotion of, support for, or affiliation with, organizations, groups or individuals associated with promoting hate, criminal and/or terrorist-related content
  • Degrading, mocking, or harassing references to events or practices that negatively affected a protected group
Inflammatory, Profane, or Offensive Content

Ads must not promote content that is inflammatory, profane or offensive for the general audience. Examples:

  • Content that promotes violence
  • Vulgar and profane content including words obscured by asterisks, symbols, etc.
  • Shocking or distasteful content
  • Dangerous content or content likely to cause injury or harm
Harmful Weight Loss or Body Image Content

Ads must not promote weight loss content that impacts physical and mental health and body image. Examples:

  • Content that is reasonably considered to 'body-shame' the customer.
  • Content that encourages, glamorizes, or promotes unhealthy or unsafe eating behaviors or eating disorders
Sensitive Event & Controversial Issues

Ads must not profit or exploit a sensitive event, topics, or controversial issues such as natural/industrial disasters, violent attacks etc. that have significant social or political impact. 

Unauthorized References

Ads must not imply or suggest unauthorized connections to brands, products, services, or platforms without authorization. Examples:

  • Claims of affiliation, endorsement or integration with our products or services without permission. 

  • References to other products or services in a way that positions them as alternatives to, or closely associated with, our offerings where no such relationship has been approved.

  • Unauthorized use of our proprietary terminology, product, feature names, branding, logos, or similar elements that could create confusion about an official partnership or endorsement.

  • Implied platform access, special privileges, or claims involving our internal tools, data, algorithms, moderation processes, or review systems.
